Triptych Questions
By Alex Solway
1. Explain what each panel represents around you.
My first panel, on the left side, is my music, TV shows, and movie section. I love music, TV shows, and movies and they are a big part of my life so I decided to take my favourites of each and put them together. The movies I used were Black Hawk Down and fight club, the music I used was the cover of Kanye West’s album graduation, and the TV show I used was the cover of Entourage.
The panel in the middle is my sports section. Sports are some of my favourite hobbies so I thought I should show some pictures of it. There two main pictures are both of me golfing. Golf is one of my favourite sports and I love playing it. The other three pictures are of Sports Illustrated, my favourite sports magaizine, the Toronto Blue Jays, my favourite baseball team, and the Philadelphia Eagles who are my favourite NFL football team.
The panel on the right is my family section. Family is a major part of my life and I spend lots of time. The main picture is of my parents and I this past summer. The other two pictures of me shooting a gun and my sister and I when we were on vacation in August.
2. Explain how you use the elements of line, texture, colour and shape in your work.
I used the element of line to create a balance between all my pictures and make them flow together. I used the element of texture using different filters in photoshop especially in the middle section. I used the element of colour throughout all the sections to make sure that all the pictures were connected and not one really dark picture and one really light picture. I used the element of shape to fit all the pictures together so there was no free space and everything worked well together.
3. Chose one area of the triptych which you feel is an area of strength and write why that is so.
The area of the triptych which I feel is an area of strength is the spot in the middle section where me golfing and the eagle meet with the golf flag in the background. This area is the strongest to me because everything floes really well and with the eagle pointed that way, It leads the viewers eye to the next section.
4. Choose one area of the triptych that you feel could use more attention to make it more effective and write why you think this.
I think that the area on the triptych that could have used more attention is the top part of the left section. It looks a little bit blurred and if I put a little bit more attention on it, it could have looked a bit better.
