Final Photo Manipulation

1. What is the theme you are exploring and why have you chosen it?

The theme I have chosen to explore in this project is peace. The reason for this is that peace is a major issue facing the world today with wars like the Iraq and Afghanistan wars going on. I decided to explore it by showing how more and more people are not just letting countries go to war without protesting it.

2. Explain the use of two of the elements of design you have used in your composition and two principles of design. Why did you focus on these elements and principles?

Elements:

Size: I used size in my composition to show how the dove is a large symbol of peace on how our society is shifting more and more towards peace and not war. The dove is also the focal point of my piece of work

Colour: I used the colour white to show and symbolize peace especially with the dove and I used red to show war because it is the colour of blood and death.

Principles:

Harmony: I created harmony in my piece by applying the same filter on the whole piece of work. This makes the whole piece of work look similar even though they are different pictures put together.

Dominance: The dominant photo in my piece of work is the dove. This is because it is white while almost all of the rest of the piece of work is a dark colour. Another reason is because it is the biggest picture on my piece of work and your eye jumps to it before looking at the rest of the picture.

Tiger Woods Essay

By Alex Solway

Eldrick “Tiger” Woods was born on December 30, 1975 in Cypress, California to his parents Earl and Kultida. As a child, Woods became a child prodigy golfer, appearing on such TV shows as The Mike Douglas Show at the age of 2. He also appeared on the cover of the most popular golf magazine Golf Digest at the age of 5. He continued his journey to becoming the best golfer in the world when he won multiple US Junior Amateur Championships and became the youngest player ever to win the US Amateur at the age of 19. He then turned pro at the age of 21 after attending Stanford University for one year and playing on their golf team. Since then, Tiger has become the most successful golfer ever winning 66 PGA Tour events and 14 Majors.

Since becoming so successful, Tiger has done a lot to give back to the community. He started The Tiger Woods Foundation in 1996, which helps create and support programs that help education, health, and safety of children in America. The program has generated millions and millions of dollars to help these kids and has lead to other programs such as the Tiger Woods Learning Centre. The learning centre was created in 2006 for underprivileged children with day programs for kid’s grades 4-6 and night programs for kid’s grades 7-12. The building is a 35, 000 square foot state of the art centre located in Anaheim, California. It gives thousands of kids a chance to learn and enjoy it too.

Tiger now resides outside of Orlando, Florida with his wife Elin and their two children, Sam Alexis who was born on June 18, 2007 and their newest child, Charlie Axel who was recently born on February 8, 2009.

Tiger Woods is important to me because he gives me a great golf role model to look up to. He is arguably the best golf ever and his focus and intensity to become the best is unrivaled. He is also amazing at giving back to the community with his foundation and all he has done for kids around America. He also broke the colour barrier with golf being the first African American to ever win the Masters golf tournament and the first successful African American golfer. He really is a perfect role model for not just a golfer but anyone who needs someone to look up to.
